About
Cryptojacking is a type of cyberattack where malware secretly uses a victim’s computer, phone, or server to mine cryptocurrency without the owner’s knowledge or permission. Instead of stealing money directly, attackers steal computing power and electricity. The attacker installs software that performs the complex calculations required to generate cryptocurrency, and the rewards are sent to the attacker’s digital wallet. Cryptojacking became especially common after the rise of privacy-focused cryptocurrencies like Monero, which are easier to mine using regular CPUs.
